01 · DISCIPLINE — SEARCH & VISIBILITY

Search & Visibility

SEO and GEO: be the source, not the link below it.

Technical SEO, content, local and GEO — extended into AI Overviews and AI Mode since 2025.

THE SHORT VERSION

Search stopped being a list. It became an answer with two or three names in it. Everything below is aimed at making one of them yours.

BUZZWORD ALARM

“We do GEO.”

REALITY CHECK

So does everyone, as of about eighteen months ago.

Google published its own guidance in May 2026 and said it plainly: optimising for generative AI search is optimising for search — it is still SEO. It went further and named the tactics you can ignore for Google: llms.txt files, chopping your content into chunks, rewriting pages for machines, and buying mentions. If an agency’s GEO offer is a list of those four things, you are paying for ceremony. The parts that genuinely changed are what you measure and what you write.

Indexable, or invisible.

A page has to be indexed and eligible for a snippet before it can appear in an AI answer at all.

Crawlability, JavaScript rendering, duplicate content, page experience, and the Search Console settings that decide whether you are eligible for generative AI features in the first place. Unglamorous, binary, and the reason most “GEO strategies” produce nothing.

If a competitor could publish it unchanged, it won’t get cited.

Google calls it non-commodity content. We call it having something to say.

“Seven tips for X” is common knowledge with a headline on it — any model can generate it, and increasingly does. What gets retrieved is first-hand: the campaign that failed and why, the number your sector actually pays, the process you’d defend out loud. We write from your account data and your team’s experience, or we don’t write it.

Two or three names get cited. Not ten.

Ask an assistant for a supplier in your canton and you get a shortlist, not a page of results.

Google Business Profile, the site, directories, reviews — four surfaces, one consistent set of facts across all of them. Inconsistency between them is a common reason a regional business is skipped, and it is usually an afternoon’s work to fix. We run this from two offices, in Däniken and Aarau, for Solothurn and Aargau.

What changed.

Not the writing. The measurement, and the shape of the proof.

Three shifts that show up in accounts.

  • 01 Ranking and citation are not the same channel. One analysis found 80% of AI-cited URLs don’t rank in Google’s top 100 for the same query, so ranking reports alone now under-report you.
  • 02 Bottom-funnel pages predict AI referral traffic. Pricing, comparisons and case studies do it better than blog volume does.
  • 03 Measurement moved. Search Console’s Generative AI performance report is the official surface; no third-party tool has access to Google’s internal ranking or AI systems, whatever the dashboard implies.

3–6 months to the first real signal.

6–12 to a visibility change worth reporting to a board. The checkpoint dates go in the first meeting, so you know when to judge us.

Swiss market benchmarks and our own accounts agree on this range. Anyone promising a quarter is selling you a paid campaign with an SEO invoice attached.
