AI and performance marketing

M Marcel WEBADVICE AG
THE SHORT VERSION

Automation is excellent at bidding, sorting and drafting. It is poor at judging lead quality and deciding what a business should say. Keep the second category human and the first will pay for itself.

Every platform now sells automation as a strategy. It is not one. It is a fast executor of whatever objective you hand it — which means the quality of your inputs, especially your conversion definition, decides whether it compounds returns or compounds a mistake.

Where it earns its keep

These three uses survive contact with a real account and a real sales team.

  • 01 Bid and budget mechanics. Given clean, value-weighted conversions, automated bidding beats manual reliably.
  • 02 Creative volume. Drafting variants and localisations for a human editor to cut. Speed, not judgement.
  • 03 Signal triage. Scoring and routing leads, flagging anomalies, summarising call notes into the CRM.

Feed an algorithm the wrong conversion and it will hit it faster than any human could have.

Where it quietly burns budget

Broad automated campaigns with an unqualified lead as the goal. Fully generated landing pages that read like everyone else. Chat assistants answering pricing questions the sales team has not agreed on. Each looks efficient in the platform and costs you in pipeline quality.

The division of labour we use

Machines handle bidding, drafting and triage. Humans own the conversion definition, the offer, the disqualification criteria and the weekly decision about where budget moves. That line has not moved in three years, and every client where it blurred spent a quarter recovering.
